First Blog With Teaching Ideas

Blogging is very new to me. I didn't really know what it was or how to do it and i am not sure if i am doing it right. Although from the research i have looked at it shows that blogging is huge. So many people do it and it can help with many different things. Blogging also gave me an idea similar to something i did in one of my classes in grade school. In this class my teacher would have us write in a journal every day about anything that may be going on in our life that day and what we learned that day. This helped me out a lot and helped me reflect on each day and remember everything i learned that day. The idea i have for my future students would be to use blogging instead of a journal at the end of every week. At the end of every week students would have free will to blog about anything on their mind, but would also have to blog about what they learned that week and what they think about what they learned. The learning goals would be to get them to write, and to get them to reflect on what they learned. To often what people learn in a day goes in one ear and out the other. This activity would help them to remember everything they learned in the week. I would know what they learned from reading their blogs and i would know if what i am doing is working in the class room. It would also not just help the students but me as a teacher as well.

  1. I think that having a weekly blog is a good idea especially ones that reflect on what you learned that week. This can be a good thing to look back on when you have a test coming up!

  2. I think that having the students write what they learned at the end of the week is a great idea. They could also post questions about anything they didn't understand and didn't have time to ask during the class period!

  3. I plan to also have my students write what they've learned at the end of every week. I think it's a good way for them to get a refresher if they happen to forget what has already been covered in class!

  4. It's a great idea to schedule a regular time to blog and reflect. It could set up life-long study habits that could help your students grasp and understand material better even after you are no longer their teacher!

  5. I like your idea! I wrote in a composition notebook in grade school as well. This is also great for parents to be involved in their kids life's at school. :)

  6. Good idea. I also think that letting the students have time to blog about whatever is on their minds instead of just every lesson from the week is important. Although as you mentioned it is also a good tool for a refresher at the end of the week.

  8. I think it would be a good tool for knowing what your students are learning. Any tool to help build relationships with the students is positive. As the year goes on they would be more comfortable sharing. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us!

  9. I agree that assessing information retained can be through blogging. I also think it is fun interactive way to get students involved. Oftentimes child freeze when they hear the word test. This is an easy way to assess the students learning without having to use that word.

  10. I like your idea of using the blog to write about the week than writing a journal. It's like the same thing but this way the students can see it as well or they can stay anonymous when writing their entry that week.

  11. That would be a great idea to have the students practice reflecting on what they have learned and keeping a record of it by using online journals. It would also be quite helpful for assessing the students when it comes to planning lessons.

  12. I like your correlation between blogs and journals, I think that a blog would be a very good replacement for a physical journal; however, not all students have 24/7 availability to a computer in order to keep a blog.
